Integrated Control of Connection Admission, Flow Rate, and Bandwidth for ATM based Networks: a comparative evaluation

چکیده
The combined control problem of connection admission, flow rate, and bandwidth allocation (capacity, service-rate) in ATM based networks under nonstationary conditions has recently attained considerable importance. In an earlier paper we adopted a nonlinear control approach to derive an integrated control strategy (for the finite buffer and finite server case) that is insensitive to any propagation delay. The performance of the proposed scheme was carried out using analysis and simulation. In this paper we report and analyse the results of a comparative evaluation with a well known method of flow control: that of BECN (Backward Explicit Congestion Notification).

Neural Network Based ATM Connection Admission Controllers – A Comparative Study
The congestion control problem is one of the challenging problems facing ATM designers. Proper control of congestion is absolutely necessary for providing QoS for all the services supported by the network. Multimedia sources such as voice and video are bursty in nature. There may be many bursts during a call and the bursts themselves may have a variable number of cells. Since the idea of high-s...
متن کاملIntegrated Control of Connection Admission, Flow Rate, and Bandwidth for ATM Based Networks
We consider the combined control problem of connection admission, flow rate, and bandwidth allocation (capacity, service-rate) under nonstationary conditions. A fluid flow model in state variable form describes the time varying mean behaviour of Available Bit Rate (ABR) traffic, which competes with Guaranteed Traffic for network resources. Using nonlinear control we derive an integrated control...
متن کاملA Review of Connection Admission Control Algorithms for ATM Networks
The emergence of high-speed networks such as those with ATM integrates large numbers of services with a wide range of characteristics. Admission control is a prime instrument for controlling congestion in the network. As part of connection services to an ATM system, the Connection Admission Control (CAC) algorithm decides if another call or connection can be admitted to the Broadband Network. T...
متن کاملA Comparative Performance Analysis of Call Admission Control Schemes in ATM Networks
Connection Admission Control (CAC) is one of the primary mechanisms for preventive congestion control and bandwidth allocation in ATM networks. A substantial number of CAC schemes have been proposed. In this paper, we review the salient features of some of these algorithms. We also provide a comparative study of the performance of CAC schemes devised to meet certain quality of service requireme...
متن کاملAnalysis and Dimensioning of Credit-based Flow Control for the Abr Service in Atm Networks
ATM networks have shown to reveal difficulties in simultaneously guaranteeing the requested Quality-of-Service while efficiently utilizing all the available bandwidth for economic reasons. The ABR (available bit rate) service class was designed to fill the gap of bandwidth with less delay but loss sensitive traffic. Due to the bursty nature of higher-priority traffic and the resulting bandwidth...
